I Sat To Write A Poem
By: John Kaniecki
I sat to write a poem
Seeking searching
Masters before
Of years yore
Poems they are a shady lot
The worst of which soon forgot
The best perhaps eternal
“To be or not to be”
(Ah! Now you see!)
I was slumming with Bukowski
And soaring with Frost
And thus I came to see
Both thought Pound was lost
Slice a lemon how you will
Shall I make you think
Or give you a thrill
Poems a potent pill!
Poets they rarely get paid
But there is ample lemonade
